[08-28-2026] Kern County, CA – Three Killed, Several Injured in Head-On Crash Near Bakersfield

Three people were killed, and several others suffered major injuries in a head-on collision near Bakersfield on Friday morning, August 28, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred shortly after 5:00 a.m. on Copus Road, just west of Old River Road in the Lakeview area.

CHP said an unsafe lane change was involved in the collision. Investigators have not determined which vehicle made the lane change or released additional details about the vehicles involved.

A Kern County Fire Department official earlier reported that four people were transported to a hospital.

The CHP continues to investigate the fatal crash.
