[08-08-2026] San Joaquin County, CA – Two Construction Workers Killed in Trench Collapse in Stockton

Two construction workers were found dead after a trench collapsed at a construction site in Stockton on Saturday morning, August 8, 2026.

According to the Stockton Fire Department, firefighters responded around 5:15 a.m. to a construction site in the 7900 block of North El Dorado Street following reports of two men trapped in a trench. Fire officials said the trench was approximately 10 feet deep before the collapse.

Authorities said three workers had been working at the site on Friday evening. One worker left around 5:30 p.m., while the other two remained behind. When the worker returned on Saturday morning, he noticed that their vehicles were still at the site and that their cellphones had been left behind. He then found debris inside the trench and called for help.

Firefighters found that the trench walls appeared to have collapsed, filling the excavation with debris. Crews conducted a recovery operation and located both workers deceased. Fire officials said personnel worked for several hours to access and remove the two men.

Authorities have not confirmed when the trench collapsed. Cal/OSHA continues to investigate the incident.
