[08-08-2026] Merced County, CA – One Killed, Two Injured in Rollover Crash Near Little Panoche Road

One person was killed, and two others were injured in a rollover crash in Merced County on Saturday morning, August 8, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 6 a.m. on an unpaved road approximately three miles from the Mercey Hot Springs resort on Little Panoche Road. 

Three people were traveling in a modified Jeep and attempting to drive uphill when the vehicle began rolling backward.

The Jeep subsequently overturned, ejecting all three occupants. CHP said the modified vehicle did not have seatbelts. 

One passenger died from their injuries. The other passenger, who was also injured, climbed down the hill to call 911.

The driver sustained major injuries and was airlifted to a hospital for treatment. Authorities have not released the identity of the person who died.

The CHP continues to investigate the crash.
