A 67-year-old man was killed after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Highway 20 in Clearlake Oaks, Lake County, on Monday evening, August 3, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 7 p.m. in the area of Highway 20 and Lakeland Street.
Investigators said the Clearlake Oaks man was crossing the highway outside of a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a westbound 2015 Hyundai driven by an 82-year-old Lucerne man. After the impact, the vehicle continued and crashed into a lamppost.
The pedestrian died from his injuries shortly after officers arrived at the scene. The driver sustained moderate injuries but was not transported to a hospital, while his 69-year-old passenger was treated for minor injuries.
Authorities said the driver remained at the scene, cooperated with investigators, and was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. The identity of the pedestrian has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
The investigation remains ongoing.
