[07-27-2026] Kern County, CA – 23-Year-Old Driver Killed in Collision With Semi-Truck on Highway 99

A 23-year-old man was killed after a collision involving his vehicle and a semi-truck on northbound Highway 99 in Kern County early Monday morning, July 27, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported at around 12:37 a.m. on northbound Highway 99 at Highway 46. 

Authorities said the driver of a white 2015 Chevrolet Cruze was involved in a solo-vehicle crash and came to rest partially blocking the No. 4 lane while facing west.

CHP reported that as a Peterbilt semi-truck approached in the No. 3 lane, the Chevrolet Cruze suddenly accelerated into the path of the truck. The semi-truck driver was unable to avoid the collision and struck the Chevrolet.

The Peterbilt driver pulled over to the right shoulder and remained at the scene until emergency crews arrived. The Chevrolet driver, identified by the Kern County Coroner’s Office as 23-year-old Tristen M. of Bakersfield, was pronounced dead.

CHP reported that it is unknown whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
