Two crashes on southbound Interstate 5 in Bakersfield caused lane closures and traffic delays on Wednesday morning, July 15, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the first crash was reported around 7:54 a.m. north of the Upper Cross and involved a semi-truck and another vehicle.
The truck spilled a load of dirt onto lanes three and four, prompting a SigAlert and closure of those lanes for approximately six hours.
Shortly after, at about 8:10 a.m., a second crash was reported south of Templin Highway in the number three lane, involving two vehicles.
Motorists were advised to expect delays and use alternate routes while authorities cleared the debris and investigated both collisions.
The CHP continues to investigate the circumstances of both crashes.
