Five people were killed, and one remains critically injured following a single-vehicle crash in Santa Maria early Sunday morning, June 7, 2026.
According to the Santa Maria Police Department, officers and paramedics responded around 1:40 a.m. to the incident at the intersection of South Broadway and Miller Street.
Authorities stated that the vehicle crashed into a traffic signal pole. Four occupants were pronounced dead at the scene, while two others were transported to a hospital. One of the hospitalized individuals later died from their injuries, and the other remains in critical condition.
Investigators indicated that alcohol may have been a contributing factor, and received information suggesting the vehicle may have been speeding, though this is still under verification.
The identities of those killed are being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Police continue to investigate the cause of the collision.
