[05-21-2026] San Diego County, CA – One Killed, Another Critically Injured in Crash on I-8 in Lakeside

At least one person was killed, and another suffered critical injuries following a crash in the Lakeside area, San Diego County, on Thursday morning, May 21, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision involving a Tesla and an SUV occurred around 11 a.m. on westbound Interstate 8 near Lake Jennings Park Road.

Authorities stated that one of the vehicles was traveling on the eastbound side of the freeway when it crossed over the center divider for reasons still under investigation and collided with the other vehicle traveling westbound.

Officials reported that the SUV overturned onto its roof. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, while another was transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital in critical condition.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
