[05-11-2026] Imperial County, CA – One Killed, Three Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash on SR-86 in Salton City

One person was killed, and three others were injured following a two-vehicle crash in Salton City, Imperial County, on Monday night, May 11, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m. on State Route 86 near Norm Niver Road, south of Red Earth Casino.

Authorities reported that a Honda Accord entered the direct path of a southbound 2007 Kia Spectra traveling on State Route 86 at approximately 70 miles per hour. The front of the Kia collided with the left side of the Honda, causing both vehicles to lose control before coming to rest on the roadway.

A 50-year-old passenger inside the Honda was ejected during the collision and pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the Honda and another passenger sustained major injuries and were transported to Desert Regional Medical Center. The driver of the Kia suffered moderate injuries.

Investigators determined that the Honda’s passengers were not wearing seat belts at the time of the collision.

The investigation remains ongoing.
