[05-07-2026] Plumas County, CA – One Killed in Head-On Crash on SR-70 Near Vinton

One person was killed following a multi-vehicle head-on collision near Vinton, Plumas County, on Thursday morning, May 7, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 11:17 a.m. on State Route 70 east of State Route 49.

Authorities reported that a Ford F-150 traveling westbound crossed into the eastbound lane for reasons still under investigation and collided with a Ford Explorer carrying a driver and family members. The pickup truck then continued forward and crashed into a Dodge Dart traveling behind the Explorer.

Officials stated that the Ford Explorer spun out and came to rest on the south dirt shoulder. The Dodge Dart sustained severe damage, trapping the driver inside.

The driver of the Dodge Dart, identified as 63-year-old Danny P. of Loyalton, was extricated by emergency crews and airlifted to Renown Regional Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

The driver of the Ford F-150, identified as 69-year-old Danny S. of Beckwourth, was transported by ambulance to a hospital for treatment. The driver of the Ford Explorer, 22-year-old Trenton S. of Chilcoot, and his family sought medical evaluation as a precaution and were not visibly injured.

Authorities stated that impairment is not believed to have been a factor in the collision. The investigation remains ongoing.
