A driver sustained major injuries following a crash involving a semi-trailer in Bakersfield on Sunday afternoon, May 3, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded to the incident at around 4:45 p.m. on Merle Haggard Drive.
Authorities reported that a 2017 Ford Escape traveling westbound crossed into the eastbound lanes. The Ford then collided with an eastbound semi-trailer traveling along Merle Haggard Drive.
The 40-year-old driver of the Ford was transported to Kern Medical with major injuries. The driver of the semi-trailer was not injured.
CHP reported that the Ford driver was later arrested at the hospital on suspicion of driving under the influence.
