One man was seriously injured, and two others were hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash on northbound Highway 101 south of Mariposa Reina Drive in Gaviota, Santa Barbara County, on Sunday night, March 29, 2026.
According to Santa Barbara County Fire, crews responded around 7:30 p.m. to the incident involving three patients.
The crash began when a sedan crashed, sustaining major damage. Moments later, a second vehicle collided with the disabled sedan.
California Highway Patrol Officer Michael Muñoz stated that the first crash resulted in injuries, while the second crash caused only minor damage.
Fire officials reported that one man required extrication from the sedan and was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with major injuries. Two additional patients were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The second vehicle sustained minor damage, and no additional injuries were reported.
The investigation remains ongoing.
