Two drivers were injured in a head-on crash on State Route 70 near Cherokee Road in Butte County on Thursday afternoon, March 5, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded to the crash site at around 2:56 p.m., about 10 miles west of Jarbo Gap.
Investigators reported that a FedEx delivery truck was traveling westbound on SR-70, while a pickup truck towing a trailer was heading east. For reasons still under investigation, the FedEx truck entered the eastbound lane and directly collided with the oncoming truck.
Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles following the crash. CHP officers and a Good Samaritan freed one driver, while Cal Fire and emergency crews worked to extricate the second driver.
Both drivers sustained moderate injuries and were transported to local hospitals in stable condition.
The crash caused significant debris, leading to a hard closure of SR-70 near Cherokee Road until crews could clear the scene.
CHP is asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact the Oroville CHP at (530) 332-1200. The investigation is ongoing.
