[01-17-2026] Butte County, CA – Head-On Crash Blocks Mangrove Avenue and E. 5th Ave. in Chico

A head-on crash involving two vehicles blocked the intersection of Mangrove Avenue and E. 5th Avenue in Chico on Saturday morning, January 17, 2026.

According to the Chico Police Department, officers responded around 11:22 a.m. to reports of a head-on collision at the intersection. 

Authorities said a vehicle traveling westbound on E. 5th Avenue attempted to make a left turn onto Mangrove Avenue and failed to yield to oncoming traffic. A second vehicle was traveling eastbound on East 5th Avenue at the time of the crash.

Dispatch initially reported two minor to moderate injuries. However, an officer later confirmed that the involved parties declined medical treatment, and the incident was classified as a non-injury collision. 

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
