A man was killed after being struck by two vehicles on southbound Highway 99 near Taft Highway in Bakersfield early Monday morning, December 29, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred just after 2:30 a.m. when a man was walking in the third lane of southbound Highway 99, south of Taft Highway.
CHP said an unknown vehicle struck the man and fled the scene immediately. A short time later, a second vehicle traveling southbound struck the man as he was lying in the roadway.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities stated that the driver of the second vehicle, a Honda, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. It was not known whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
