A woman was killed in a head-on collision on Highway 49 south of Union Mine Road in the San Andreas area of Calaveras County on Wednesday evening, December 17, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred shortly after 6:00 p.m. when a 2019 Nissan Rogue SUV driven northbound by 55-year-old Edna S. of Altaville crossed into oncoming traffic.
Authorities said a 2010 Ford F-150 pickup traveling southbound, driven by 67-year-old David S. of Carson City, Nevada, attempted to swerve right to avoid the SUV, but the front of the pickup collided with the Nissan.
CHP reported the wreckage partially blocked both lanes and that the SUV sustained major intrusion, resulting in fatal injuries to Edna.
CHP said David suffered major injuries and was airlifted to a valley trauma center for treatment. Investigators stated that alcohol and drugs did not appear to be contributing factors.
The crash remains under investigation.
