A 44-year-old man was killed when a Ford Ranger overturned off State Route 78 east of Weekend Villa Road in Ramona, San Diego County, on Thursday afternoon, August 28, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 3:45 p.m. The 2008 Ford Ranger, driven by a 43-year-old man from Lemon Grove with a passenger, navigated a right curve and veered off the wet roadway for unknown reasons. The vehicle struck a wooden post and overturned down a dirt embankment.
First responders extricated the driver, who sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital. The passenger, who was wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. CHP officials said alcohol does not appear to have been a factor.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash. CHP emphasized that speeding and unsafe turns are common causes of roadway crashes, particularly in inclement weather.
