[12-31-2024] Stranded Driver and Woman Sustained Major Injuries After Being Struck on Highway 12 Near Double Springs RoadA stranded driver and a woman sustained major injuries after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 12 near Double Springs Road in Calaveras County early Tuesday morning, December 31, 2024.

The incident occurred around 3:15 a.m. when the driver, whose vehicle had run out of gas near Toyon Middle School, attempted to flag down passing vehicles. 

Calaveras Consolidated Fire personnel arrived to find the man and a woman lying on the roadway with severe injuries. Two vehicles, including the stranded driver’s car, were located at the scene.

Air ambulances transported both injured individuals to hospitals in the Sacramento area for treatment.
