[12-06-2024] Two Hospitalized Following Two-Vehicle Collision in EncinitasTwo people were injured and hospitalized after a two-vehicle collision in Encinitas on Friday night, December 6, 2024.

Deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department’s North Coastal Station responded to reports of a crash at approximately 9:55 p.m. at the intersection of Santa Fe and Lake Drives.

According to preliminary investigations, a 24-year-old man driving a 2003 Toyota Tacoma eastbound on Santa Fe Drive entered the intersection of Lake Drive. At the same time, a 16-year-old girl driving a 2016 Nissan Frontier westbound on Santa Fe Drive attempted to turn south onto Lake Drive on a “Left Turn Yield” green light. The two vehicles collided.

The Tacoma overturned during the collision, ejecting its driver. He was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla with life-threatening injuries. A 23-year-old passenger in the Tacoma also sustained injuries and was taken to the same hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities reported that neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to be contributing factors in the crash.

The driver of the Nissan Frontier remained at the scene and was uninjured.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
