A woman was killed, and three other people were injured in a head-on collision near Kettleman City in Kings County on Wednesday morning, December 4, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 7:30 a.m. on Utica Avenue, east of Interstate 5.
A Chevrolet Malibu, driven by a man with two passengers—a man and a woman—was traveling eastbound on Utica Avenue when it veered into the westbound lane. The Malibu collided head-on with a westbound Jeep Compass driven by a woman.
The female passenger seated in the right front seat of the Malibu was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and rear passenger of the Malibu, as well as the driver of the Jeep Compass, sustained moderate injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment.
CHP reported that visibility in the area was reduced due to heavy fog, which may have contributed to the collision.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
