Two individuals were airlifted to a medical facility after a head-on collision in Piñon Hills, San Bernardino County, early Friday morning, November 29, 2024.
According to the authorities, the crash occurred on Highway 138 near Wintergreen Road at approximately 2:04 a.m.
Authorities stated that a Jeep collided with another vehicle occupied by four people. Emergency personnel found two individuals trapped inside one of the vehicles, requiring extrication. Mercy Air and Reach helicopters were dispatched and airlifted the critically injured patients to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center.
Two other individuals sustained less severe injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals via ground ambulances. The driver of the Jeep fled the scene before law enforcement arrived, and a search was initiated, though the driver had not been located.
The cause of the crash and the search for the fleeing driver are under investigation by local authorities.
