INJURED IN AN ACCIDENT?

[10-30-2025] San Luis Obispo County, CA – Cal Poly Student Injured in Bicycle Crash with Vehicle Near Campus

A Cal Poly student was injured in a crash with a vehicle near campus in San Luis Obispo County on Thursday afternoon, October 30, 2025.

The crash occurred at about 4:07 p.m. when a 21-year-old cyclist, traveling eastbound on Highland Drive across Highway 1 toward campus, entered the intersection against a yellow or red light.

At the same time, an 80-year-old man driving a Mercedes SUV was heading northbound on Highway 1 with a green light and slowly entered the intersection from a stop.

The cyclist struck the front left side of the Mercedes in the northbound lanes and was thrown from his bike. The cyclist was conscious and able to speak with CHP Officer Dave Reed, but may have suffered minor injuries.

The California Highway Patrol blocked the intersection for about 25 minutes while paramedics treated the cyclist. He was then transported by ambulance to Adventist Health Sierra Vista Hospital.

The investigation is ongoing.
