[10-28-2025] Humboldt County, CA – Head-On Crash on US-101 Near Metropolitan Road Leaves One Dead and One Injured

[10-28-2025] Head-On Crash on US-101 Near Metropolitan Road Leaves One Dead and One InjuredA head-on collision resulted in one fatality and one person suffering major injuries on US-101 Southbound near Metropolitan Road in Humboldt County on Tuesday afternoon, October 28, 2025.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 2 p.m. when a 2020 Ford F350, driven by 40-year-old Justin A. of Fortuna, was traveling southbound. 

At the same time, 23-year-old Ocean D. of Eureka was driving a 2012 BMW 328 with a passenger northbound on US-101. For reasons still under investigation, Ocean’s vehicle crossed the center median and collided head-on with Justin’s Ford in the southbound lanes.

Following the crash, the BMW became engulfed in flames. The passenger in the BMW sustained fatal injuries at the scene, but their name has not been released. Ocean was transported to St. Joseph Hospital with major injuries. The condition of Justin has not been released.

CHP has stated that it is unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
