One person was killed, and multiple people were injured in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 just north of Camp Pendleton in San Diego County early Wednesday morning, October 23, 2024.
The collision was reported shortly after 1:30 a.m. on the southbound side of I-5 near the military base, according to a California Highway Patrol sergeant at the scene.
The sergeant indicated that an SUV and a sedan collided for reasons still under investigation, causing both vehicles to veer off the roadway and strike a parked tractor-trailer on the right shoulder.
As a result of the crash, the occupants of both vehicles were trapped. One person in the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene, while two other occupants of the SUV were transported to the hospital. The lone occupant of the sedan was also freed from the wreckage and taken to the hospital for treatment.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
