An 18-year-old UC Merced student from Los Angeles was critically injured after being struck by a car while riding an e-scooter on Yosemite Avenue and Lake Road in Merced on Wednesday evening, October 22, 2025.
According to the Merced Police Department, the crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. near the university campus. Officers determined that the student was riding an e-scooter when they were hit by a vehicle.
Merced Police Sgt. Nathan McKinnon said investigators were collecting evidence, marking the roadway, and analyzing data from the vehicle to determine speeds. Authorities are also seeking witnesses or dashcam footage to help determine which light was green at the time of the collision.
The student remains in critical condition as the investigation continues.
