A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a big rig that fled the scene along Interstate 5 near Dunnigan, Yolo County, on Tuesday night, October 21, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, officers were initially dispatched around 8 p.m. to the rest area off I-5 at County Road 8 after receiving reports of a pedestrian in the area.
Shortly afterward, around 8:10 p.m., authorities received another call reporting that the pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle in the southbound lanes.
CHP said the victim, a man, died at the scene. The crash occurred in a construction zone where Caltrans workers witnessed a white big rig with a front grille guard slow down briefly after striking the pedestrian before continuing southbound on I-5 without stopping.
Authorities continue to investigate the fatal crash.
