A scooter rider sustained major injuries after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run crash on East 20th Street near Highway 99 in Chico on Tuesday evening, October 21, 2025.
According to the Chico Police Department, witnesses reported that a white sedan struck a person riding a scooter before fleeing the scene. The rider suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Another witness provided officers with the suspect vehicle’s license plate number, which was later located through automated license plate technology near Skyway and Highway 99.
With assistance from the California Highway Patrol, officers located the vehicle on Highway 99 near Pentz Road. The driver, identified as Ky S., was detained, positively identified, and arrested for felony hit-and-run. He was transported to the Butte County Jail.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
