One person was killed in a traffic crash on Interstate 5 near Petco Park, San Diego, on Sunday night, October 13, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred shortly after 9:00 p.m. when a 23-year-old woman from Chula Vista lost control of her 2016 Kia Soul on the southbound side of the freeway.
The vehicle veered to the right, went up an embankment near Imperial Avenue, and struck an electrical box, which then hit a pedestrian. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. The identities of both the driver and the victim have not yet been released.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
