[09-27-2024] Man Killed While Picking Up Crash Debris on Highway 63 Near CutlerA man was struck and killed while assisting with debris cleanup after a crash on Highway 63 in Tulare County early Friday morning, September 27, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred just before 6:00 a.m. near Avenue 392, south of Cutler. 

Authorities stated that a truck heading southbound on Highway 63 was rear-ended by another vehicle after stopping to make a left turn. A passerby stopped to help clear the debris from the roadway when he was hit by a passing car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

CHP officers reported that the driver who struck the man did not see him on the road. One person involved in the initial crash was transported to a hospital with head lacerations but is expected to recover.

Highway 63 was closed between Avenue 388 and Road 128 for the investigation and reopened shortly before 8 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing.
