[09-22-2025] San Bernardino County, CA – Driver Killed in Head-On Collision Between SUV and Semi-Truck on Highway 18 in Piñon Hills

A driver was killed in a head-on collision between a Chevrolet Equinox and a semi-truck on Highway 18 in Piñon Hills, San Bernardino County, on Monday afternoon, September 22, 2025.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported around 4:45 p.m. east of Blanco Road.

The Equinox, traveling eastbound, crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a Freightliner semi-truck delivering drinks from Snapple. The driver of the Equinox was pronounced dead at the scene. The semi-truck driver, a woman, was not injured.

San Bernardino County Fire personnel extricated the Equinox driver, and the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office took custody of the body. Witnesses reported the SUV briefly caught fire after the collision, which was extinguished by a bystander. Highway 18 remained closed in both directions while authorities investigated and cleared the roadway.
