A pedestrian was struck and killed in the Town of Apple Valley, San Bernardino County, on Monday morning, September 16, 2024.
According to deputies, the vehicle-and-pedestrian collision occurred at approximately 2:54 a.m. on Highway 18 and Flathead Road.
Authorities stated that a silver Kia Optima, driven by 31-year-old Nicholas H., was traveling westbound on State Highway 18 in the number one lane, approaching Flathead Road.
The pedestrian, an unidentified male between 18-20 years of age, was walking westbound on State Highway 18 in the roadway between lanes when the Kia struck him from behind.
The pedestrian suffered major injuries and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The driver of the Kia Optima was uninjured and remained on the scene to cooperate with the investigation.
