Several multi-vehicle crashes temporarily closed the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 near the Grapevine in Kern County on Monday afternoon, September 14, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the first crash was reported at around 1:15 p.m. and involved approximately four to five vehicles in the No. 1 lane of northbound I-5 near the Grapevine.
CHP records indicated that another multi-vehicle collision was reported just north of the initial crash. Authorities did not immediately provide additional information about the vehicles involved.
All northbound I-5 lanes were temporarily closed while crews worked to clear the crashes. CHP Fort Tejon later reported that one lane had reopened and advised motorists to expect delays.
It was not immediately known whether anyone was injured in the collisions.
By 5:00 p.m., CHP records indicated that all lanes had reopened.
The investigation is ongoing.
