A woman and a child suffered critical injuries in a single-car crash on southbound I-680 just north of Highway 24 in Walnut Creek early Sunday morning, August 31, 2025.
According to authorities, the crash was reported shortly after 4:00 a.m. Witnesses said the vehicle crossed multiple lanes before colliding with the center divide and eventually catching fire. Emergency personnel and bystanders worked to free the occupants from the wreckage.
Both the woman and the child were transported to local hospitals for treatment of major injuries. At least one motorist had stopped to render aid until fire and medical crews arrived on scene.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
