A construction worker died after being trapped under dirt and a steel pipe in a trench in Scripps Ranch in San Diego County, early Wednesday, August 28, 2024.
San Diego Fire-Rescue responded to a call about a trench rescue at a job site on Hoyt Park Drive and Scripps Ranch Boulevard, across from Scripps Ranch High School, at around 4 a.m.
When crews arrived, they found one person had managed to climb out of the trench, but another was trapped at the bottom.
A medic was sent down and confirmed that the trapped worker had died. The victim was pinned by a giant steel pipe encased in concrete, which was dislodged by the weight of the dirt around it.
To safely retrieve the victim, rescue teams used a vactor truck to remove the dirt, then deployed a lifepulley system attached to a ladder truck to lower a member of the technical rescue team for recovery. The second worker, who escaped the trench, did not sustain significant injuries.
No further details were immediately available.
What A Lawyer Can Do For You
Many victims put off calling a lawyer even if they sustain injuries after an accident. However, lawyers can help you in many ways. They can provide you with police reports, CCTV footage, and witness statements to strengthen your case. Your attorney will also negotiate with insurance companies to get you fair compensation. The best part is that they will do all of these things for you at no upfront cost. So if you’re injured in an accident, hire a personal injury attorney to recover medical bills, car repair costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
