[08-17-2024] 24-Year-Old Man Injured After Suspected DUI Hit-And-Run Collision in Cortez NeighborhoodA 24-year-old man is injured after being struck by a vehicle in a suspected DUI hit-and-run collision in the Cortez neighborhood in San Diego on Saturday morning, August 17, 2024.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the incident occurred shortly before 4:30 a.m. when 29-year-old Steven R. was driving a silver Mercedes sedan northbound on Seventh Avenue.

Police reported that Steven first collided with a parked vehicle in the 1400 block of Fifth Avenue and then fled the scene. He later failed to yield the right of way and struck a pedestrian who was crossing the street at the intersection of Seventh Avenue and Cedar Street. The driver fled the scene again.

Authorities stated that the pedestrian sustained an open fracture to his left leg and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. His injuries are considered non-life-threatening.

Shortly after the collision, Ross reportedly parked his vehicle on the 1600 block of Eighth Avenue. He was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit and was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, as well as DUI causing injury.

The details are still being investigated. No further information is immediately available.
