The incident occurred at approximately 8:28 p.m. on I Avenue near Santa Fe Street.  According to Sheriff’s spokeswoman Gloria Huerta, a black Honda Accord was traveling south on I Avenue when it lost control, rolled over, and landed on its wheels in an embankment several feet from the main roadway.

Deputies identified the driver as 23-year-old Ailine L. of Victorville, who was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence.

The woman’s 10-month-old child, who was also in the vehicle, was airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center and is currently hospitalized.

Leon has been booked at the High Desert Detention Center on charges of DUI and child cruelty, with bail set at $250,000. She faces charges of VC23153(A) DUI Alcohol Causing Bodily Injury and PC 273A(A) Child Abuse With Possible Great Bodily Injury.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Hesperia Police Department.
