A collision involving three big-rig trucks spilled gravel and caused major traffic delays on Ortega Highway in San Juan Capistrano on Wednesday afternoon, August 13, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 2 p.m. near the Greenstone Materials recycling facility at 32502 Ortega Highway.
CHP Officer Brian Kinsey said one truck was exiting the facility’s driveway when it collided with an eastbound truck on Ortega Highway. The impact caused the trucks to crash into a third big-rig that had pulled over onto the shoulder.
The drivers sustained minor injuries. Gravel spilled onto the roadway, requiring work crews to spend hours towing the trucks and clearing the debris.
By 6:30 p.m., only one lane was open, and officers were directing traffic in both directions through the area.
