Two occupants of a city bus were injured, one critically, after the bus crashed off state Route 163 in University Heights in San Diego County on Tuesday morning, August 5, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the Metropolitan Transit System vehicle went off the freeway north of Washington Street at approximately 9:00 a.m. for unknown reasons. Emergency crews had to force open the bus doors to free the trapped occupants.
The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department reported that one of the injured was in “CPR status” while the other sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Both individuals were transported to hospitals for treatment.
The University Avenue on-ramp to northbound SR-163 was closed through late morning while authorities investigated the cause of the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
