Three people were injured following a crash on Highway 178 in Kern County on Tuesday afternoon, August 5, 2025, after a couch fell off a pickup truck and caused a collision.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred just after 4:00 p.m. near Mount Vernon Avenue when a couch fell off a pickup truck and landed in the lanes. The driver of a Jeep Cherokee swerved to avoid the couch but lost control of the vehicle. The Jeep overturned and careened off the roadway, rolling down a small embankment. It came to rest near the fence of an apartment complex.
Three people were inside the Jeep, with the passengers suffering minor injuries. They were transported to Kern Medical for treatment.
Two lanes of traffic were temporarily closed while authorities investigated the crash and cleared the debris from the roadway.
