[08-04-2024] One Person Killed Following Pedestrian Vs. Vehicle DUI Collision in MantecaOne person was killed following a pedestrian vs. vehicle DUI collision in Manteca on Sunday night, August 4, 2024.

According to the Manteca Police Department, the fatal accident occurred just before 10:30 p.m. along West Yosemite Avenue right in front of the Kaiser Permanente Manteca Medical Center.

The specifics of the crash remain unclear, but police were able to confirm that the victim was an employee of the Kaiser hospital. That person was said to be crossing West Yosemite Avenue when they were struck by an unspecified vehicle.

The victim, whose name, age, and gender were not immediately provided, died due to the incident.

Police have since arrested the driver, later identified as 38-year-old Manteca resident Blake W., on suspicion of driving under the influence of marijuana. He is being held in the San Joaquin County Jail on DUI and vehicular manslaughter charges.

As a precaution, authorities closed off the roadway between Fishback Road and St. Dominic’s Drive while investigating the crash site.

Police work is underway.
