[08-04-2024] Bicyclist Injured After Being Struck by Fleeing Vehicle in El SegundoA bicyclist was injured after being struck by a fleeing vehicle in El Segundo on Sunday afternoon, August 4, 2024.

According to the El Segundo Police Department, the incident occurred around 3:00 p.m. at the intersection of Center Street and Mariposa Avenue.

The collision took place during an ongoing investigation by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department gang and narcotics team, which had begun their operation in the area around 1:35 p.m.

As part of the investigation, a deputy attempted to pull over the suspect for an unknown reason. Instead of complying, the suspect rammed the deputy’s vehicle and fled the scene. While escaping the police, the suspect vehicle crashed into the bicyclist, inflicting serious injuries.

Deputies later discovered the injured bicyclist and administered first aid before paramedics arrived. The victim, whose name, age, and gender remain unspecified, was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

The suspect’s vehicle was later found abandoned nearby, but the driver had fled. El Segundo police are now assisting in the ongoing hit-and-run investigation.
