A man was killed after being struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the highway in Merced County on Friday morning, August 1, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred shortly after 7:30 a.m. on Highway 99 near the Atwater-Merced Expressway. Officers said the man tried to cross the road and jumped into traffic before being hit.
He was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The driver involved remained at the scene.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
