A construction worker was injured after a trench collapsed in San Mateo on Thursday morning, August 1, 2024.
According to the San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department, the incident happened just before 9:30 a.m. on the private property of a residence in the 300 block of West 41st Avenue.
Authorities stated that a man in his 30s was working on a private residential property when became partially buried in at least 10 feet of dirt. Rescue crews were dispatched to the scene and spent nearly an hour getting the man out from the dirt.
The construction worker sustained unknown injuries and was transported to a hospital via ground ambulance. He was listed in critical condition. There is no word yet on the identity of the victim.
Further information regarding the incident has yet to be released by the responding officers. Investigations are ongoing.
