A man died after being struck by a bus in the Valley West area of Arcata on Tuesday evening, July 29, 2025.
According to the Arcata Police Department, officers were dispatched around 6:35 p.m. to the intersection of Giuntoli Lane and Valley West Boulevard, where the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The Humboldt Transit Authority confirmed that the incident involved one of its buses. The driver has been placed on leave during the investigation, which is being conducted jointly by the transit agency and Arcata police.
No other injuries were reported. The scene was cleared around midnight with assistance from the Eureka Police Department and Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, who documented the area using photographs, drones, and 3D scanning equipment.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
