[07-29-2024] Sacramento County, CA – Five People Hospitalized After High-Speed Pursuit Led to Two-Vehicle Crash in Rancho Murieta

Five people were hospitalized after a high-speed pursuit led to a two-vehicle crash in Rancho Murieta, Sacramento County, on Monday night, July 29, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened around 8:15 p.m. at Jackson Road and Murieta Parkway.

CHP said they received a report of a speeding Hyundai Elantra in Amador County just before 8:00 p.m. Officers tried stopping the reported vehicle, but its driver sped away instead, prompting a high-speed pursuit. The Hyundai, reportedly going as high as 80 mph, went onto Highway 49 and westbound Highway 16 into Sacramento County, eventually approaching Murieta Parkway.

The suspect then crashed into a Rivian RS1 driven by a woman going south on Murieta Parkway. CHP stated that the Hyundai caught fire following the crash and that an officer hurriedly extricated the suspect driver and his passenger out of the now-burning car and into a safe area.

Both occupants of the crashed Hyundai, a male driver and a female passenger, suffered major injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the female driver of the Rivian, along with her two passengers, sustained moderate injuries and were also taken to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

None of the people involved were named yet. Additional information will be provided as soon as it becomes available.

Authorities later discovered that the reported Hyundai was a stolen vehicle. An investigation is ongoing.

Don’t Know What To Do After An Accident?

Your safety and rights depend on what you do next after an accident. Remember the following steps if you find yourself in one:

  • Check yourself for any injuries.
  • Stay on the scene, call 9-1-1, and wait for emergency responders.
  • Move your vehicle to the road shoulder if safe; turn on hazard lights.
  • Fully cooperate with law enforcement and stay until cleared to leave.
  • Document the scene and injuries with photos and videos.
  • Seek immediate medical attention.
  • Contact your insurance company and find a personal injury lawyer for legal advice.

What A Lawyer Can Do For You

Many victims put off calling a lawyer even if they sustain injuries after an accident. However, lawyers can help you in many ways. They can provide you with police reports, CCTV footage, and witness statements to strengthen your case. Your attorney will also negotiate with insurance companies to get you fair compensation. The best part is that they will do all of these things for you at no upfront cost. So if you’re injured in an accident, hire a personal injury attorney to recover medical bills, car repair costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
