One person was killed, and another was injured after a two-vehicle collision in Fresno County on Monday night, July 29, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 8:30 p.m. on Interstate 5.
Authorities stated that an 85-year-old Sacramento man was driving a 2005 Ford southbound in the far right lane along I-5. For some reason, he made a sharp left turn into the far left lane, going into the path of a 2012 Chevrolet traveling between 70 and 75 mph.
As a result, the Ford crashed into the front passenger side of the Chevy. Bystanders were able to pull the Sacramento man from his vehicle before it was fully engulfed in flames. However, the man was pronounced dead due to his injuries.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Chevy, identified as 32-year-old Joshua A., suffered minor injuries from the crash. His current condition was not immediately known.
Drugs and alcohol were ruled out as possible factors in the crash. The responding officials are still gathering all the necessary evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
