[07-26-2024] Monterey County, CA – 2-Year-Old Boy Killed, Father Injured Following Pedestrian Vs. Vehicle Hit-And-Run Crash in Salinas

A 2-year-old boy was killed while his father was injured following a pedestrian vs. vehicle hit-and-run crash in Salinas on Friday evening, July 26, 2024.

According to the Salinas Police Department, the fatal accident happened around 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of East Alisal Street and Wood Street.

Police said that a maroon late 2000s Hyundai Sonata sped through the intersection and failed to stop at a red light, causing it to hit the two pedestrians crossing the street. The vehicle then sped off without rendering help or calling the authorities.

Upon arrival, officers found the adult father with serious injuries, while the 2-year-old boy with him was pronounced dead at the scene. Further information about the victims’ identities was not immediately available.

Police later stated that they located the suspect vehicle parked at an apartment complex in Elton Place. However, the hit-and-run driver was still nowhere to be found.

The incident is still under investigation. As of now, no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information that could help the police track down the hit-and-run driver is asked to contact them immediately.

Don’t Know What To Do After An Accident?

Your safety and rights depend on what you do next after an accident. Remember the following steps if you find yourself in one:

  • Check yourself for any injuries.
  • Stay on the scene, call 9-1-1, and wait for emergency responders.
  • Move your vehicle to the road shoulder if safe; turn on hazard lights.
  • Fully cooperate with law enforcement and stay until cleared to leave.
  • Document the scene and injuries with photos and videos.
  • Seek immediate medical attention.
  • Contact your insurance company and find a personal injury lawyer for legal advice.

What A Lawyer Can Do For You

Many victims put off calling a lawyer even if they sustain injuries after an accident. However, lawyers can help you in many ways. They can provide you with police reports, CCTV footage, and witness statements to strengthen your case. Your attorney will also negotiate with insurance companies to get you fair compensation. The best part is that they will do all of these things for you at no upfront cost. So if you’re injured in an accident, hire a personal injury attorney to recover medical bills, car repair costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
