A male pedestrian was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle in Fresno on Friday morning, July 26, 2024.
According to the Fresno Police Department, the pedestrian vs. vehicle collision occurred around 10:30 a.m. at Shaw Avenue and Valentine Avenue.
FPD said a white vehicle was heading eastbound on Shaw Avenue using the No. 2 lane when it struck a pedestrian crossing south on Valentine Avenue. Police later confirmed that the pedestrian was walking across the street using a crosswalk but did so without a green light.
The male pedestrian, whose name, age, and origin were not disclosed, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. He is currently listed in critical condition.
Meanwhile, the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the police. They appeared uninjured immediately following the incident. The white vehicle involved reportedly sustained considerable windshield damage.
As a precaution, eastbound traffic on Shaw Avenue was being diverted through the nearby Big Lots parking lot while authorities investigated the crash site.
