[07-21-2024] One Person Killed, At Least Five Injured After Two-Vehicle Crash in Jefferson ParkOne person was killed, while at least five were injured after a two-vehicle crash in south Los Angeles early Sunday morning, July 21, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal collision happened around 3:20 a.m. on the eastbound Santa Monica (10) Freeway at Arlington Avenue in the Jefferson Park community.

CHP said the incident occurred after a vehicle spun out of control along the freeway before resting sideways in one of its lanes. Moments later, another vehicle crashed into it, leading to a fatality and multiple injuries on top of severe damage to both cars.

Authorities declared one person inside a Toyota Camry dead at the scene. It was not clear if the deceased was a driver or a passenger when the crash happened. It is also unspecified whether the Camry was the one that spun out or the other car.

It is said that at least five other persons were injured as a result of the collision. Two of them were said to be in critical condition, while the statuses of the other three were unknown. None of the people involved were identified at the time of writing. 

The official cause of the deadly accident is still being investigated. As of now, CHP could not confirm if alcohol, drugs, or speeding played a role in it.

Authorities closed off the Arlington Avenue off-ramp for several hours while clearing the scene and investigating.
