A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Union Avenue in Bakersfield late Saturday night, July 18, 2026.
According to the Bakersfield Police Department, officers responded to the incident at around 10:45 p.m. at the 3600 block of Union Avenue.
Authorities said the pedestrian had exited a stopped vehicle in the number one lane of northbound Union Avenue when they were struck by a vehicle traveling north in the adjacent number two lane. The pedestrian was transported to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
Police reported that the driver of the striking vehicle fled the scene immediately. Preliminary investigations indicate that speed is not believed to be a factor, and it is unknown whether intoxication was involved.
